If you've been following AI developments at Anthropic, you've heard about Claude Code and the power of agentic AI. Now, imagine that capability—but directly inside Slack, working with your entire team, not just one person.
That's Claude Tag.
Claude Tag is a new way for teams to work with Claude, available now in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. Instead of opening a separate tab to chat with an AI, you simply tag @Claude in a Slack channel and delegate work while you focus on other priorities.

What Makes Claude Tag Different?
At Anthropic, 65% of the product team's code is now created by their internal version of Claude Tag. That's not just a compelling stat—it signals a fundamental shift in how teams can collaborate with AI. But why is this different from just having a bot in Slack?
It's multiplayer. Within a given Slack channel, there's one Claude that interacts with everyone, meaning anyone can see what it's working on and pick up the conversation from where the last person left off. This transforms Claude from a personal assistant into a true team member.
It learns and remembers. Claude builds context by remembering relevant information from the channels it's in, so users don't need to explain things from scratch over and over. Mention a project decision three weeks ago? Claude already knows about it.
It works asynchronously. Set a task and walk away. Claude can schedule tasks for itself, pursuing a project autonomously over hours or days—perfect for teams across time zones.
It takes initiative. If "ambient" behavior is enabled, Claude will proactively keep you updated about whatever it thinks you might need to know, flagging relevant information from across the channels it's in and the tools it's connected to.
How It Works in Practice
Tag @Claude with a request in simple terms and it'll break its task down into stages and then work through them in turn, using the tools it has access to. Once it's done, it'll respond in a Slack thread with what it's created.
Here are five real-world scenarios where Claude Tag shines:
Example 1: Code Generation & Review
Claude accesses your GitHub repo, analyzes the codebase, proposes improvements, and documents them all in thread. Your engineering team can discuss or iterate without context-switching.
Example 2: Data Analysis & Reporting
Claude connects to your analytics tools, runs the queries, generates visualizations, and posts a summary—all without leaving Slack.
Example 3: Bug Triage & Investigation
Teams are now tagging Claude to chase down product metrics, work through support tickets, or even help find the root cause of tricky bugs. Claude can pull logs, correlate events, and escalate findings automatically.
Example 4: Documentation Generation
Claude reads existing documentation, synthesizes it into a structured guide, and posts it to a thread for team review.
Example 5: Scheduled Follow-ups
Claude can autonomously follow up on work that's stalled, freeing humans to focus on their current priorities.
Security & Control
Here's what separates Claude Tag from a wide-open AI: You decide what Claude Tag can reach by setting credentials and repository access at three levels—organization-wide, workspace, and private channel. Each level inherits the permissions of the one above it.
A legal team's Claude won't accidentally access sales tools. An engineering channel's Claude won't see customer data. Admins can view, edit, and delete memory, and every task is traceable in an Audit view listing every scheduled and one-time task across your organization.
Getting Started
Claude Tag is available in beta starting today for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. To get started, administrators specify which tools and information the model should have access to, in which channels, by visiting the admin settings and following four steps: pair Claude Tag with your Slack workspace, give Claude access to your tools, set a limit on your organization's monthly spend, and test Claude in a private channel.
Claude Tag is consumption-based, so spend is based on usage rather than the number of people. Admins control organization-wide limits, per-channel limits, and receive threshold alerts at 75% and 95% of any limit.
The Bigger Picture
Claude Tag replaces the existing Claude in Slack app, with administrators able to opt in within 30 days. Anthropic is issuing introductory launch credit to eligible Enterprise and Team organizations so teams can try it out.
Anthropic sees Claude Tag as the beginning of an evolution of Claude Code—it makes the model even more proactive and works better with a full team. The pattern of tagging Claude is now spreading well beyond engineering at Anthropic, with teams using it to chase down metrics, work through support tickets, and identify root causes of bugs.
