Introduction to Digital Leader Certification

In the realm of Google Cloud, there’s some big news in the form of what appears to be a minor certification. The Google Cloud Digital Leader certification is a new Google certification with an updated syllabus.

Azure has the AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, AWS has the Certified Cloud Practitioner (CCP), and now Google Cloud has the Google Cloud Digital Leader.

This is the first foundational-level certification for GCP. There are no prerequisites for taking the exam, which can be taken completed remotely, and it is “job-role neutral.” It requires no hands-on expertise with Google Cloud.

The Google Cloud Digital Leader certification has replaced the Associate Cloud Engineer certification. It suggested that you have at least six months of Google Cloud development experience.

Google states in the Cloud Digital Leader exam guide that the candidate must grasp several essential choices, such as “costs vs responsibilities” and “degree of management versus freedom.” The exam also covers Google’s and users’ shared responsibilities for Google Cloud security and other parts of the systems they’ve constructed.

Updated Exam Guide (applicable from January 26th, 2022)

I like the updated exam guide because of many reasons like this new guide is more structured with properly mentioned weightage on each section (I like this approach because now I know which section I need to put more focus on as I will get most of the questions from that section). Finally, the learning path which Google Cloud suggests for this certification is perfectly mapped with each section. So once you complete the learning path, you will be in a better state to understand the different products that come with Google Cloud, their capabilities, and different use cases where they should be used. Below are the different sectioned mentioned in the updated exam guide.

Section 1: Introduction to Digital Transformation with Google Cloud (approximately 10% of the exam)

Section 2: Innovating with Data and Google Cloud (approximately 30% of the exam)

Section 3: Infrastructure and Application Modernization with Google Cloud (approximately 30% of the exam)

Section 4: Understanding Google Cloud Security and Operations (approximately 30% of the exam)

Learning Path of Google Cloud Digital Leader Certification

Google Cloud recommends the below learning path which is perfectly aligned with the updated exam guide. So highly recommend this new learning path.

At the same time, I will suggest you make some hands-on and understand the concepts. I know that no hands-on experience is needed for this certification, but if you see the bigger picture, this certification should be the foundational certification for your Google Cloud journey. So understanding concept along with hands-on is the best way to learn things.

In the next couple of weeks, I will be publishing many blog posts and youtube videos in my channel covering different products, their use cases, and how you can make your hands dirty with those products. So stay tuned.
